"Paley Center's She Made It Honors and Gracie Allen's Illogical Logic" {Excerpts}
Gracie Allen died in 1964, but last night she joined 49 other women being honored by the Paley Center for Media as it inducted its third class of She Made It honorees...
The television and radio industry, like most others, was historically not welcoming to women as executives. Companies like ABC and CBS were, for years, bastions of male supremacy where women were typically welcome only in stereotypical secretarial and other subservient roles.

"She Made It" {Excerpts}
by Jessica Stites
Women play only two roles in most histories of TV and radio: actor and audience. Not so in The Museum of Television & Radio's new three-year exhibit, "She Made It: Women Creating Television and Radio," which features 2,000 hours of TV and radio produced by, written by and starring women.
Turns out women have been involved in these media since the 1920s, and they have been incessant innovators. The soap opera, the family sitcom and modern-day reality TV were the brainchild of women--Irna Phillips, Gertrude Berg and Judith McGrath, respectively.
